Job summary

Carilion Clinic is seeking a Clinical Associate at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center CCU to perform basic clinical services and clerical support for the unit health-care team. The role involves greeting patients, assisting with admissions, coordinating flow, and handling communications and scheduling, with attention to safety and regulatory compliance.

Required is a high school diploma or GED. No prior experience is necessary; CNA certification may be required for the job in certain

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED.
• No prior healthcare experience required.

Responsibilities

• Welcomes and assists patients and visitors with registration.
• May assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Coordinates patient flow into/out of area using department/unit specific software and Intranet. Schedules patient therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
• May review medical records for outstanding orders and notifies nurse of stat orders and medication changes.
• Cleans unit-based equipment and gathers supplies needed to operate equipment between patients as needed.
• Transports patients, supplies specimens and equipment within the facility.
• May assist with chart audits.
• May perform unit-based patient care tasks for patients.
• May participate in the sitter process
• Interacts with patients, visitors, physicians, and other health professionals.
• Answers incoming calls via telephone and patient call system. Routes calls as needed and takes messages.
• Provides scheduling coverage support for department/unit staff scheduling, including back up coverage.
• Operates and maintains general office equipment. Orders department/unit supplies and equipment and stocks/organizes supplies.
• Serves as a resource for department/unit software system.
• Monitors cleanliness of waiting and break rooms and performs safety/environmental rounds.
• Assists with maintaining regulatory compliance in unit.
