Job summary

Brattleboro Retreat in Vermont seeks an experienced registered nurse to join the IP Adult Psychiatry unit. You will work with a multidisciplinary team, utilizing the nursing process to deliver complex care and supervise MHWs for safe, therapeutic treatment.

You will provide nursing care, including medication administration, monitor patient safety, and participate in the development of care plans. Crises are managed with calm intervention and proper documentation.

Qualifications

• State of Vermont licensed registered nurse.
• Preferred one year psychiatric nursing experience, or two years general nursing experience.

Responsibilities

• Assumes Charge Nurse responsibilities for a given shift.
• Uses the nursing process to assess, implement and evaluate patient/family care.
• Provides nursing care (including the administration of medication) to meet patients’ needs.
• Demonstrates knowledge of specimen collection, storage and delivery criteria for toxicology testing.
• Participates in the development and maintenance of a safe and therapeutic milieu in assigned care area.
• Adheres to and implements organizational and departmental policies and procedures as they pertain to work area.
• Demonstrates ability to intervene in crisis situations: assess milieu, intervene calmly, use verbal de-escalation, and document appropriately.
• Performs constant observations and other safety procedures; participates in multidisciplinary care planning.
• Shares information with the multidisciplinary team and documents appropriately.
• Participates in education for patients and families.
• Participates in Performance Improvement activities.
