Job summary

DHR Health in Edinburg, TX is hiring a Nursing Assistant (CNA) to provide direct and indirect patient care in a behavioral health unit during the night shift. You will support RNs, assist with activities of daily living, monitor patients, and help maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.

Role requires CPR/BLS, CPI training within 30 days, and a preference for CNA certification and hospital experience. Strong communication and teamwork are essential to coordinate care with nursing and physicians.

Qualifications

• High school/GED preferred.
• CPI training required within 30 days of hire date.
• Current CNA certification preferred.
• Current BLS/CPR certification required.
• Good written and verbal communication skills required.
• Ability to read, write and speak English
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians
• Prefer hospital experience

Responsibilities

• Promotes hospital mission, vision and values in services and practices.
• Conducts a full client inventory in the Intake area.
• Gives report to the nurse and tech picking up client in Intake area.
• Does not leave the client unattended at any time.
• Identify contraband and dispose of it appropriately.
• Coordinate sending home medications with nurse/family when applicable.
• Orient patient and family to processes, unit routines, and unit contacts.
• Assist on units between admissions in coordination with Intake Department.
• Orient patients to the unit and record admission vital signs.
• Record vital signs, intake and output and notify RN of changes.
• Provide general nursing care (transfers, ADLs).
• Observe patients for behavioral changes; notify RN as needed.
• Assist with de-escalation techniques and limits for patients.
• Orient new staff to the unit and assist with therapeutic groups.
