Job summary

Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC, seeks a Behavioral Health Technician to support adolescent psychiatric care. You will help observe and assist with daily living activities, support crisis de-escalation, and maintain a therapeutic environment under nurse supervision.

Required are a high school diploma or higher, BLS, and potential for NCI certification. Evening/night shifts are available, with a focus on safety and compassionate patient care in a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must have excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to work with children, adolescents, and adults with mental illness.
• Basic knowledge of age-specific considerations for population served.
• Unrestricted NCI Certification upon completion of training.
• General computer competency required.

Responsibilities

• Provide care that promotes safety and preserves patient dignity.
• Assist with admissions, including contraband searches and room orientation.
• Assist with transfers and discharges, vital signs, and belongings.
• Monitor vital signs and report abnormalities to nurse.
• Assist with activities of daily living and personal care.
• Assist with therapeutic holds, restraints, and seclusion as trained.
• Engage patients in play and group activities; report findings to nurse.
• Record intake/output and graph vital signs as directed.
• Facilitate Therapeutic Community Meetings and wrap-up sessions.
• Participate in education and performance improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to cost containment efforts.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
