Job summary

West Anaheim Medical Center, a Prime Healthcare facility, seeks a Behavioral Health Charge Nurse to lead nursing staff on shift and ensure high-quality patient care within the behavioral health unit. You will collaborate with the Department Director, supervise staff, and help manage daily operations, staffing, and patient flow.

Responsibilities include directing staff, coordinating with other managers, and ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines.

Qualifications

• Current and valid state RN License.
• Current BLS upon hire and maintain current.
• Previous supervisory experience, preferred.
• Working knowledge of Mental Health Laws, Practice Standards, interdisciplinary treatment team process.
• Receive/ maintain LPS Certification as deemed necessary.
• Must obtain approved training on LPS statuses and patient rights and successfully pass LPS Certification exam.
• Must have approved LPS certification prior to writing 5150 holds in designated Prime facilities.
• LPS Professionals: Must have experience in an inpatient mental health facility per County requirements.
• Patients Rights Education/ Competency required 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, preferred.

Responsibilities

• The Charge Nurse is responsible for the quality of nursing staff and patient care during the shift.
• Assist Director in daily operation and staffing assignments.
• Provide direction, supervision and evaluation of staff and staff education as necessary.
• Ensure supplies and equipment availability and maintain par levels.
• Collaborate with department managers to coordinate services and improve patient flow.
• Direct staff to adjust plans of care to ensure patient safety and regulatory compliance.
• Interview patients/families on admission and during rounds to enhance patient experiences.
• May perform direct patient care within scope of practice, as needed.
• Document details of changes on patient care assignment records.
