Job summary

Just Compassion of East Washington County in Gresham, OR is seeking a dedicated Shelter Support to help run a 50-unit family shelter. You will assist with meals, guest support, and coordinate with case management and youth services to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.

The role requires compassion, strong communication, and reliability for evening shifts, with a pay rate of $22–$24 per hour. Benefits include medical, dental, and paid time off.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1+ year of experience in human services, hospitality, or shelter environments.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Basic cooking, cleaning, and facility maintenance skills.
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and priorities.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct assistance to families and individuals staying in the shelter with empathy and professionalism.
• Support participants in accessing daily resources such as hygiene items, laundry, and meals.
• Uphold trauma-informed and harm-reduction principles in all interactions.
• Assist with new participant orientations and help families become familiar with shelter services and routines.
• Communicate participant concerns to the Program Supervisor or Case Manager as appropriate.
• Prepare and serve meals and maintain kitchen cleanliness and sanitation.
• Follow safe food handling procedures and assist with inventory and supplies.
• Support volunteer or community meal service activities as needed.
• Report maintenance or safety concerns promptly and restock supplies.
• Complete daily logs, shift notes, and inventory records; maintain confidentiality.
