Job summary

UNC Health Care in Chapel Hill is seeking a Registered Nurse for 5 West, the Abdominal Transplant, Urology, and Plastic Surgery unit. The 36-hour weekly schedule includes 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) with nights option.

The role offers a full benefits package and eligible incentives for qualified applicants. 5 West is a 15-bed inpatient unit delivering specialized care for abdominal transplant, urologic, and complex plastic surgery patients.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Board of Nursing approved nursing education program.
• If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years and obtain a Bachelor's degree with a major in Nursing or a Master's degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment date.

Responsibilities

• Education: identifies learning needs and attends relevant programs; uses patient education materials; assesses readiness to learn.
• Evaluation of Care: identifies expected outcomes; collaborates with the inter-disciplinary team to evaluate care; communicates to promote continuity of care.
• Implementation: provides competent care for patients with complex problems; performs bedside testing; follows policies and procedures; prioritizes care.
• Leadership: develops professional goals; supports intra/interdepartmental collaboration; contributes to unit goals and performance improvement.
• Patient Assessment: recognizes data to determine priorities; plans discharge needs with families; advocates for patients.
• Planning: collaborates with patient/family to plan care; uses multidisciplinary resources; addresses cultural/ethnic issues.
• Research: reads journals; brings ideas to staff for assessment.
