Job summary

Interstate Waste Services, Inc. is seeking an Overnight Locomotive Operator for Monday to Friday, 7:30pm to 6:00am, to support rail yard operations in the greater New York, New Jersey and Connecticut markets with a rail-served Ohio facility.

You will perform pre/post trip inspections, operate locomotives, and ensure safety and compliance with FRA and OSHA requirements. The role requires at least 1 year of rail experience and the ability to work outdoors in varied conditions.

Qualifications

  • High School/GED required; higher education is a plus.
  • Minimum 1 year of rail engineering experience.
  • Ability to use tablets/computers for reporting.
  • Must lift/push/pull at least 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre and post trip inspections on locomotives to ensure proper working condition.
  • Operate locomotive in accordance with company and FRA policies.
  • Observe, interpret, and relay signals and all indications affecting movement of a train.
  • Safely and efficiently switch cars through the railyard to meet production needs.
  • Inspect train and equipment in movement and when stationary.
  • Assist with other projects and duties as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with all train orders, signals, and railroad rules, FRA.
  • Monitor track conditions and report issues.
  • Follow OSHA safety standards and wear PPE.
