Job summary

Interstate Waste Services is seeking an Overnight Rail Operator in Ohio. This role runs Monday to Friday, 7:30pm–6:00am, performing locomotive operations and ensuring safe movement of rail cars in the yard.

The ideal candidate has at least 1 year of rail experience, is comfortable working outdoors in variable weather, and can lift up to 50 pounds. Training and PPE are provided; OSHA and FRA safety standards apply.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of rail engineering and experience.
  • Ability to utilize technology in the form of a tablet and/or computer.
  • High school/GED education completed; higher education is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre and post trip inspections on locomotives to ensure unit is in proper working condition.
  • Operate locomotive in accordance with company and FRA policies.
  • Observe, interpret, and relay signals and all indications affecting movement of a train.
  • Safely and efficiently switch cars through the railyard to meet production needs.
  • Inspect the condition of the train and equipment in movement and while stationary.
  • Assist with other projects and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with all train orders, signals, and railroad rules and regulations (FRA).
  • Monitor track conditions and report issues.
  • Follow OSHA safety standards and wear PPE.

Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Ability to utilize technology in the form of a tablet and/or computer
  • High school/GED education completed, higher education is a plus
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull at least 50 pounds
  • Minimum 1 year of rail engineering and experience
  • Able to work in an outdoor environment on a constant basis while being exposed to variable weather conditions, temperatures, chemicals, dust, fumes, smells, and loud noises.
