Job summary

Newark Public Schools is seeking a Per Diem Carpenter for night hours to perform general carpentry work in the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment. Under supervision, duties include layout, construction, and service of furnishings and structures, with emphasis on safety and adherence to blueprints and schedules.

The role requires experience in carpentry, knowledge of tools and techniques, and the ability to instruct and report on work completed.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of carpentry experience in layout, construction, repair, and maintenance of buildings and furnishings.
• Valid New Jersey driver’s license required if vehicle operation is needed.
• May require a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and endorsements for the vehicle operated.

Responsibilities

• Repair and construct furniture, doors, sashes, blinds, locks, and other equipment; install frames, stairs, cabinets, and simple furniture.
• Build and repair buildings and structures using wood joints (dovetail, miter, mortise, tenon).
• Replace damaged ceiling panels, wall coverings, or floor segments.
• Build bookcases, cabinets, tables, stands, partitions and other equipment.
• Operate woodworking machines and portable tools; perform emergency carpentry repairs.
