Job summary

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Oncology Unit. This part-time night shift (12-hour) role supports nursing care for oncology, hospice, and medical/surgical patients on a 36-bed unit.

Responsibilities include patient care, vital signs, mobility, phlebotomy, EKG, IV removal, and specimen collection, under RN supervision. Education includes diploma and one of several CNA/NCMA/NCPCT/Navy or EMT programs, with BLS due within 90 days.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; must have one of the listed certifications or clinical program experience.
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
• One year of health care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and assist with activities of daily living.
• Monitor and document vital signs and patient status; report changes.
• Perform phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKGs, and specimen collection as directed.
• Assist with mobility, ambulation, and Foley catheter care as needed.
• Support nursing staff in chemotherapy and hospice patient care.
