Job summary

Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, OH is seeking a part-time Surgical Technologist First Assist to support the surgical team under an RN. The role requires setting up and maintaining the surgical field and assisting the surgeon during operations.

Responsibilities include assisting with case prep, positioning patients, and ensuring hemostasis and proper closure. Certifications such as CSA, SA-C, or CSFA are recognized; CFA/ARC-ST/CAAHEP preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required; CFA program through ARC-ST/CAAHEP preferred.
• Licensure / Certification options include NCCSA CSA, ABSA SA-C, NBSTSA CSFA.

Responsibilities

• The surgical first assistant performs within the scope of service as allowed by Mount Carmel Health System.
• Performs observable, technical behaviors as delegated by the surgeon and within regulatory boundaries.
• Ability to perform continuously detailed tasks with interruptions and re-prioritize work.
• Assists in safe positioning of patients under RN supervision.
• Helps in surgical case preparation (equipment, supplies, instruments).
• Collaborates with the surgeon to provide exposure of the field and handles tissue and instruments.
• Anticipates and assists in providing hemostasis during procedures.
• Performs closure of incisions and applies appropriate wound dressing.
• Assists in securing drainage systems to tissue.
