Job summary

Parkland Health and Hospital System in Dallas seeks a Nights shift Lactation Consultant in the Women & Family Education department. You will educate mothers and families on breastfeeding, assess breastfeeding problems, and provide discharge teaching.

Candidates must be an RN with inpatient experience and relevant lactation qualifications. IBCLC within 18 months of hire is required; NRP and CPR certifications are also required or in place.

Qualifications

• Must have graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
• One year of experience in maternal/infant health.
• Experience in lactation consulting or breastfeeding instruction preferred.
• Inpatient hospital experience required.
• Current RN license or valid temporary permit with Texas Board of Nursing or Compact RN license.
• Current healthcare provider CPR from AHA/Red Cross/Military Training Network.
• NRP certification on hire or placement in role.
• Must obtain IBCLC certification within 18 months of hire or reclassification.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate initiation and continuation of breastfeeding via one-on-one evaluation.
• Provide education on breastfeeding, breast care and related topics.
• Assist with interventions for common short-term breastfeeding problems.
• Teach breastfeeding, childbirth preparation and postpartum discharge classes.
• Document care accurately and timely in patient records.
• Stay current with lactation practice developments.
