Job summary

LAUKOA is seeking an HVAC Mechanic I to assist with maintenance, repair, and installation of HVAC systems at the FLETC Charleston facility. You will support senior technicians to ensure safe, efficient operation of heating, cooling, and ventilation systems.

Location is Charleston, SC, 100% on-site with an 11pm–7am schedule and on-call availability. Training and hands-on experience in diagnostics and system controls are provided within a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in HVAC service or maintenance.
• Proficiency with HVAC control systems and diagnostics.
• Pursue required certifications (NATE/KATE or HVAC Excellence or UA Star).
• EPA 608 Type I or II Certification required; Universal preferred.
• Understand HVAC components and safety procedures.
• Read manuals, follow instructions, and work in a team.
• Physically able to lift 50 lbs and access confined spaces.
• Trade school or vocational HVAC training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist installation and maintenance of HVAC systems including air handlers, pumps, thermostats, and ductwork.
• Perform routine filter changes, coil cleaning, lubrication, and maintenance tasks.
• Support diagnosis of mechanical and electrical HVAC issues with guidance from senior mechanics.
• Record basic service data and report issues to lead or supervisor.
• Conduct refrigerant recovery and charging under proper supervision.
• Follow OSHA standards and maintenance protocols.
