Job summary

East Georgia Regional Medical Center seeks an EMT I to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation in the EMS department, under the supervision of a Paramedic or clinical leader. You will support patient care, maintain equipment, document patient information, and promote safety and communication within the EMS team.

The role requires completion of a state-approved EMT program, CPR/BLS certification, and a willingness to operate in a hospital-based emergency setting.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of EMS protocols, emergency response procedures, and basic life support.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and clinical teams.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in dynamic and fast-paced environments.
• Familiarity with documentation standards in electronic medical record (EMR) systems.

Responsibilities

• Provides basic emergency medical care in accordance with applicable state scope of practice and departmental policies and procedures.
• Assists with patient assessment, vital sign monitoring, and delivery of care under supervision of a Paramedic or clinical leader.
• Administers first aid treatments, such as CPR, bandaging wounds, controlling bleeding, immobilizing fractures, and assisting with breathing.
• Operates emergency vehicles safely and in compliance with hospital policy and local traffic laws.
• Conducts vehicle and equipment checks at the start of each shift to ensure readiness and compliance with standards.
• Maintains and restocks supplies and equipment necessary for patient care.
• Demonstrates proper use of PPE and follows infection control procedures.
• Completes accurate and timely documentation in the EMR in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
• Escalates patient care or operational concerns through the proper chain of command.
• Collaborates with paramedics, nurses, and physicians to provide continuity of care on patient transfer to a medical facility.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
