• Clean and properly store custodial equipment after use.
• Assist and be responsible for maintaining sufficient supplies in your assigned area.
• Work assigned schedules which are subject to change; include day/night/weekends/holidays.

JOB TITLE: Custodian WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Nonexempt

REPORTS TO: Custodial Services

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a set standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of cleaning procedures and use of cleaning equipment preferred.

Knowledge of basic techniques of minor repairs and building systems and operations

Minimum Experience:

Experience preferred but not required.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Maintain cleanliness to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff.
• Be responsible for efficient cleaning of assigned areas within the allotted time. Cleaning assignments may include but not be limited to: floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, restrooms, buildings, sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas.
• Follow procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
• Follow procedures for regulating heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems.
• Follow all safety instructions and procedures.
• Report any safety hazards noted to supervisor.
• Report emergencies or injuries to Lead Custodian or Associate Director of custodian Services immediately.
• Comply with district procedures for the storage and disposal of trash.
• Report needed building and equipment repairs to Lead Custodian.

• Regular attendance; must be willing and able to report to work at designated site on a regular daily basis according to established work schedule.
• Attend training sessions and implement procedures taught.
• Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all time.
• Follow district policy concerning uniforms.
• Be courteous and professional in dealing with others.
• Comply with school district and departmental policies and procedures.
• Must be able to perform all responsibilities and duties of the job.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor which may include but are not limited to: minor maintenance of building and grounds, moving and/or assembling furniture, loading/unloading and distribution of supplies and equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Tools/ Equipment: mops (wet or dry), brooms, shampoo machines, buffers, strippers, carpet vacuum, wet/dry vacuum, leaf blower, small hand and power tools, ladder.

Mental Demands:

Ability to communicate (oral and written). Work well alone and/or with others.

Physical Demands:

Strenuous walking, standing, and/or climbing; heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) and carrying; work outside and inside; exposure to hot and cold temperatures; exposure to dust, toxic chemicals, and materials; slippery or uneven walking surfaces; work on ladders; work day, night, weekend, and/or holiday hours; work at different district locations as assigned.
