Job summary

Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, Inc. in Plattsburgh, NY is seeking a night-shift Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) working under an RN in the Progressive Care unit. The role supports patients with daily activities, vital signs, and timely communications in a teamwork-driven environment.

Expected schedule is 36 hours per week, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with every-other weekend. AHA-BLS certification is required within 6 months. This is a bargaining union position with competitive hourly pay.

Qualifications

• High school graduate, GED or equivalent work experience including ability to read, write and comprehend medical terminology.
• Previous experience as a nurse aide or completed nurse aide training program or PLA competency based training.
• AHA-BLS certification within 6 months of hire or current non-AHA-BLS card honored through renewal date.
• Competency to perform Heimlich Maneuver.
• Ability to demonstrate positive communication skills while performing job duties.
• Ability to work under pressure and relate to patients, hospital staff, physicians, and visitors.
• Basic computer skills.
• Must meet CVPH education requirements satisfactorily.
• Pre-employment screening and physical exam required.
• Ability to work independently, handle interruptions, take direction and prioritize.

Responsibilities

• Patient Care: works under the direction of RNs to provide responsive, service-oriented patient care
• Testing: conducts various patient tests and specimen collection as directed by RN
• Clerical: functions as the “front door” to the unit providing customer service-oriented communication and clerical support.
