Job summary

University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Community Care Event Observer to patrol the campus at night and on weekends, monitor events, and help ensure a safe environment for students and visitors. The role emphasizes harm reduction and collaboration with Penn Police and relevant offices.

Observers work in pairs, undergo training, and report observations and incidents. This is a temporary, non-exempt, nine-month term position with shifts typically from 9:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Must not be currently enrolled as a student at the University of Pennsylvania.
• Must not hold other employment at the University of Pennsylvania.
• Strong observational and communication skills.
• Ability to remain composed, objective, and professional in high-energy social environments.
• Prior experience in public safety, event staffing, student affairs, or community outreach is a plus.
• Commitment to reliability, discretion, and upholding university standards.

Responsibilities

• Patrol designated areas of campus during assigned shifts.
• Monitor both registered and unregistered student gatherings to help ensure safety.
• Identify and assess potential safety risks and elevate issues when necessary.
• Coordinate with offices such as OFSL, OSA, and CSA.
