Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn is seeking a Psychiatric Technician Night Shift to provide direct patient observation and support in the Behavioral Health setting, promoting safety and a therapeutic environment. Qualifications

• To qualify you must have a High School diploma or comparable education equivalent.
• Ability to work effectively with Behavioral Health patients.
• Knowledge of non-violent crisis intervention technique/de-escalation training.
• AHA Heartsaver or AHA BLS Certification.

Responsibilities

• Identify notable behavior of patients and families and communicate observations to RN.
• Recognize physical or psychological changes during 1:1 observation and report to appropriate channels.
• Apply restraints appropriately on an annual basis.
• Maintain knowledge of hospital policies regarding restraint and seclusion and 1:1 observation.
• Ensure patient confidentiality per NYS and Federal guidelines.
• Conduct regular rounds and report status to nurse in charge.
• Provide information for developing individual master treatment plans.
• Participate in creating a safe environment, including visitor screening.
• Set limits and restrictions under nursing direction.
• Protect patient privacy and rights daily.
• Evaluate therapeutic environment and report non-therapeutic components to RN.
• Complete errands as needed (transportation, searches, supplies, samples).
• Perform 1:1 within Behavioral Health as needed.
• Receive report from RN and verify observational status.
• Demonstrate location of duress buttons and security numbers as needed.
• Complete contraband searches and communicate findings to RN/MD.
• Meet documentation requirements.
• Contribute to the overall functioning of the department.
• Assist with transferring patients to floor and handover to staff.
