Job summary

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, through our St. Patrick Center service line, is hiring a Night Assistant for our Emergency Housing program.

This part-time role (no benefits) requires staying awake overnight, weekends preferred, with shifts up to 19 hours weekly. Pay is $18.50 per hour. The Night Assistant helps ensure client safety, supports treatment goals, maintains logs, and collaborates with shelter staff and case managers to uphold program policies and a trauma-informed

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Current CPR and First Aid training.
  • Understanding of mental illness and substance use issues.
  • Willingness to learn and gain more experience.
  • Ability to calmly handle difficult situations with respect and dignity.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt quickly to workplace changes.
  • Ability to stay awake during overnight shifts.
  • Comfort and familiarity with SPC client population.
  • Genuine interest in clients and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provides a comfortable and safe environment for program clients at night.
  • Works with Shelter Manager to support client treatment and success.
  • Monitors activities of residents and enforces program rules and policies at night.
  • Serves dinner to shelter residents.
  • Keeps nightly log and incident reports to inform Manager of significant events.
  • Provides crisis intervention and contacts emergency services when necessary.
  • Washes linens of vacant beds, towels each night, and monitors personal care items.
  • Respects client confidentiality
  • Works with case managers and other night assistants as a team
  • Respect and is responsible for agency policy regarding work hours, building security and all written personnel standards.
  • Ensures the trauma-informed care model in all interactions with clients and staff from other SPC programs.
  • Find replacement for shifts in the event of unexpected absence due to sickness or emergency.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working collaboratively with individuals, businesses, government and other service providers, St. Patrick Center will end chronic homelessness in the St. Louis region through Housing First, an evidence-based practice that tells us to remove barriers, do intake and assessment early, move people into housing and offer them support to achieve their goals.

Job Summary

The Night Assistant will assist in implementing the care of all clients/residents in compliance with treatment and program goals, direct phone calls in a timely and professional manner. This is a part time no benefits position working no more than 19 hours per week. Weekends preferred, with overnight shift availability required. Pay is $18.50 per hour.
