Job summary

St. Patrick Center, part of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, is hiring a Night Assistant for the Emergency Housing program. The role supports nightly client care, enforces program rules, and assists with crisis intervention during overnight shifts.

The position is part-time (≤19 hours/week), weekends preferred, with no benefits. Starting pay is $18.50 per hour, and the team collaborates to ensure safety and dignity for residents.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Current CPR and First Aid training
• Understanding of mental illness and substance use issues
• Ability to stay awake during overnight shifts
• Excellent communication skills
• Willingness to learn and gain more experience in the above areas.
• Flexible and adaptable to workplace changes
• Respect for client confidentiality

Responsibilities

• Provides a comfortable and safe environment for program clients at night.
• Works with Shelter Manager to support client treatment and success.
• Monitors activities of residents and enforce program rules and policies at night.
• Serves dinner to shelter residents.
• Keeps nightly log and incident reports to inform Manager of significant events.
• Provides crisis intervention and contacts emergency services when necessary.
• Washes linens of vacant beds, towels each night, and monitors personal care items.
• Respects client confidentiality.
• Works with case managers and other night assistants as a team.
• Respect and is responsible for agency policy regarding work hours, building security and all written personnel standards.
• Ensures the trauma-informed care model in all interactions with clients and staff from other SPC programs.
• Find replacement for shifts in the event of unexpected absence due to sickness or emergency.
• Other duties as assigned.
