Job summary

North Wind Services is seeking an Engineering Technician V to install, operate, and maintain the NIF facility and utility systems at LLNL in Livermore, CA. The role requires strong mechanical/electrical skills and the ability to work on a 3/12-4/12 schedule, including overtime, in a high‑reliability environment.

You will collaborate with LLNL personnel, maintain complex distribution systems, and ensure safety practices. A.A.

Qualifications

• AA in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Technology or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with GUI and manipulating systems.
• Hands-on experience with facilities installation, operations, maintenance and repair.
• Knowledge of analytical tools for simulating facility and utility systems.
• Proficient with tools used for installation, testing and repair of facility/utility systems.
• Experience anticipating, identifying, and resolving facility problems.
• Experience with LOTO processes.
• Ability to read detailed drawings and blueprints.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Experience in multidisciplinary environments with tight schedules.
• Medically qualified to wear respiratory and protective equipment.
• Ability to work scheduled overtime and in emergencies.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and perform physical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Operate facility support systems to enable shot operations (utilities, vacuum, cooling, gas systems).
• Install equipment per layouts and safety codes.
• Ensure as-built configuration matches drawings/diagrams.
• Plan inspections, maintenance, and installation projects.
• Review system processes for safety and performance.
• Participate in quarterly outages for maintenance.
• Use test equipment to troubleshoot and repair systems.
• Work from drawings or written instructions.
• Provide timely customer service.
• Prepare logs and reports on facility systems.
• Adhere to ES&H regulations and safety responsibilities.
