Job summary

St. David’s North Austin Medical Center is seeking a Transition Registered Nurse (RN) in the Newborn Nursery to coordinate and provide direct patient care.

You will attend deliveries to advocate for newborns after delivery, assess and assist in safe extrauterine life adjustments, monitor stability, and complete initial head-to-toe assessments and ongoing nursing care during the two-hour transition period. Qualifications

• 1 year of clinical nursing experience as an RN.
• 1 year of experience in Newborn, Mother Baby, Neonatal ICU, or Newborn Transition care.
• BSN preferred; NLN-accredited nursing school.

Responsibilities

• Assign initial Apgars and facilitate skin-to-skin bonding for a minimum of 1 hour.
• Assist with breastfeeding or feeding choices during the first hour and beyond to prior to moving to Mother Baby.
• Assess newborn respiratory status and airway; use NRP guidelines, thermoregulation and metabolic stability.
• Develop care plans that promote, facilitate, and maintain newborn wellness.
• Administer medications, monitor glucose and SaO2, collect urine/meconium as needed.
• Mentor Labor and Delivery and Mother Baby Nurses during busy times.
