Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Nursing Unit Clerk (NUC) to perform clerical, reception, and related duties in support of nursing care and services to patients at Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

Responsibilities include communication with patients and staff, managing electronic systems, updating records, assisting with scheduling and admissions, and maintaining accurate census information in IDX and related tools.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school and any combination of clerical experience, health care experience and/or post high school education which totals one year, or
• Any combination of clerical experience and/or health care experience which totals two years.

Responsibilities

• Communicates with patients, visitors and health care professionals and maintains positive relationships.
• Uses electronic communication systems to coordinate among the health care team and patients/families.
• Answers phones, delivers messages and keeps white boards updated daily as appropriate.
• Assist in call-light system, relay information to team members in a timely manner.
• Navigate web-based resources and use online clinical and business applications.
• Maintain census information and enter ADT data in IDX and Premise bed board activities.
