Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care—Department of Nursing is seeking a Nursing Unit Clerk (NUC) to perform clerical, reception, and related duties for patients in the Medicine Psychiatric Inpatient Unit (3BT). This 15-bed unit serves adults with acute physical and psychiatric needs and operates in a dynamic hospital environment in Iowa City.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• One year of clerical/health care experience, or two years of clerical/health care experience total.

Responsibilities

• Communicates with patients, visitors, and health care professionals in an effective manner.
• Maintains electronic communication systems and messages for the health care team and patients/families.
• Answers the telephone, takes and delivers messages, and updates White Boards daily as appropriate.
• Helps answer call lights and relays information to the appropriate team members.
• Maintains census information and performs related ADT entries and billing/census reconciliation.
