Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a Nursing Unit Clerk to support the nursing team in both inpatient and outpatient areas. You will interact with patients, families, and healthcare staff, manage messages, and help maintain census and billing processes.

This on-campus, part-time position offers a merit appointment, with weekend rotations and shift differentials. Strong communication and clerical skills are essential, along with basic MS Word/Excel proficiency.

Qualifications

• High school diploma with 1 year clerical/health care experience, or 2 years clerical/health care experience.
• Public contact/customer service experience and medical terminology knowledge.
• Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel; excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Communicates with patients, visitors, and health care professionals and maintains positive relationships.
• Uses electronic systems to coordinate team communication and patient information.
• Answers calls, delivers messages, and keeps white boards updated.
• Maintains census information and processes patient charges.
• Notifies health care professionals of admissions and prepares forms with patient ID information.
• Maintains hospital records using standard medical terminology and symbols.
• Assists in scheduling tests and appointments and follows infection control policies.
