Job summary

Duke University seeks an experienced nurse leader to manage the assigned patient care area on a 24-hour basis with a Monday–Friday schedule and on-call responsibilities 24/7. The role emphasizes clinical excellence, staff development, and adherence to policies within a diverse, collaborative team.

The position requires a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a current RN license in North Carolina, and at least three years of nursing experience; a Master’s degree is strongly preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.
• Master's degree in Nursing strongly preferred.
• Three years of nursing experience is required.
• Must have current or compact RN licensure in North Carolina.
• BCLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise functions of the assigned patient care area on a 24-hour basis; ensure effective delivery of clinical patient care and compliance with policies.
• Participate in development of the clinical area's strategic and operational plans; promote professional practice and staff participation.
• Interface with patients and families to ensure care aligns with expectations; apply the nursing process from admission to discharge.
• Ensure a diverse unit-based workforce and coordinate participation in councils and committees.
• Coordinate delivery of patient care 24/7; maintain competencies; coach and evaluate staff; develop clinical development programs.
• Maintain unit records and ensure compliance with policies, quality control, safety, and infection-control requirements.
• Oversee hiring, performance appraisals, and staff scheduling; ensure efficient use of personnel and resources.
• Coordinate nursing activities with other hospital personnel; monitor budget and resource use; develop action plans for efficiency.
