Job summary
East Tennessee Children's Hospital is seeking a Nursing Education Specialist to assess, plan, and implement orientation and education programs for nursing units. You will coordinate unit-specific educational initiatives, evaluate staff competency and work with the central education department on hospital-wide activities.
The role involves supporting nurse residency, mentoring preceptors, and serving as a resource for education strategy across departments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing required; Master's degree preferred.
- TN RN licensure with BLS/PALS/NRP provider status required.
- BLS instructor within 1 year of hire; PALS/NRP instructor preferred.
- Minimum 3 years NICU nursing experience; 1 year training-related experience.
Responsibilities
- Develops annual outcome-focused educational plans with input from leadership.
- Supports preceptor programs and mentors unit staff.
- Assesses educational needs and analyzes trends across units.
- Acts as liaison to organization committees to address education needs.
- Maintains unit-based orientation for licensed and non-licensed staff.
- Performs education and training duties as needed.
- Generates CBISA reports and ensures monthly submissions by August.
- Incorporates Patient & Family-Centered Care into education initiatives.
