Job summary

WJHG-TV/Gray Media in Panama City Beach, FL is seeking a dynamic Evening Anchor to lead our weekday newscasts. We are not looking for a reader; we want a journalist-leader who will anchor, report, and create daily content for broadcast, streaming, web, and social.

You will mentor less-experienced journalists, connect with the community by emceeing events, and represent the station on and off camera. This role requires passion for local news and a broad understanding of modern multi-platform

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Broadcast Journalism or related field is required.
• Prior professional experience in news media is required.
• Strong writing skills for newscasts.
• Strong professional social media skills.
• Excellent communication and leadership capabilities.
• Willingness to engage with the community off camera and represent the station at events.
• Solid technical skills to shoot, edit, write, and direct content independently.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Anchor a newscast and assist with producing, scripts, and content.
• Report on breaking news events live locally and nationally; conduct live interviews.
• Produce, present, and direct content across broadcast, streaming, web, and social platforms.
• Turn streaming content into on-air, web, and social stories.
• Multitask and manage technical tasks while reporting and anchoring live.
• Work on special projects including investigative reporting and long-form features.
• Assist with other newsroom duties as directed by management.
• Maintain a flexible schedule to meet news team needs.

Job Summary/Description

WJHG, the #1 station in Florida's fast-growing Panhandle, is seeking a dynamic Evening Anchor to lead our weekday newscasts. We are not looking for a reader. We need a journalist-leader who will anchor, report, and create daily content for broadcast, streaming, web, and social. This role also requires someone who can mentor less-experienced journalists and actively connect with the community by building relationships, emceeing events, and representing the station on and off camera. This job requires a passion for local news and a broad understanding of modern multi-platform journalism.

• Anchoring a newscast, which also requires assisting with producing, checking scripts, and contributing content.
• Reporting breaking news events happening live locally and/or nationally and scheduling/conducting live interviews.
• Ability to produce, present, and technically direct unique content every day that will broadcast on multiple platforms.
• Ability to turn content generated on streaming platforms into stories that can be used on air, web, and social media.
• Must be able to multitask and juggle technical skills while reporting and anchoring live.
• Works on special projects, including investigative reporting and long-form features.
• Assists with other newsroom duties as directed by management.
• Able to work a flexible schedule and hours that could change depending on the needs of the news team.

Qualifications/Requirements

• A BA/BS degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field is required for this position.
• Prior professional experience working in news media is required.
• Strong writing skills and experience writing for newscasts.
• Strong professional social media skills.
• Excellent communication and leadership capabilities.
• Willingness to get involved in the community off camera and represent the station at local events.
• Solid technical and computer skills, with the ability to shoot, edit, write, and technically direct content independently.
