Job summary

The WAND newsroom at Gray Media is hiring a skilled journalist to lead our Central Illinois evening newscasts. You will anchor on-air, write and edit scripts, and help younger reporters thrive in a collaborative environment.

We seek 3–5 years of newsroom experience with at least two years on the anchor desk; an investigative journalism background is a plus. This is not an entry level role and requires strong teamwork and communication.

Qualifications

• 3 to 5 years of newsroom experience preferred.
• Minimum of two years on the anchor desk required.
• Background in investigative journalism is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Anchor evening newscasts with authority and strong on-air presence; write, edit, and proof scripts for accuracy and conversational tone.
• Lead breaking news coverage and conduct live, unscripted interviews; mentor junior reporters and producers in daily editorial meetings.
• Represent the station at community events and build relationships with local viewers.
• Pitch, research, and report original enterprise stories for special segments and features.
• Drive viewer engagement by sharing news and behind-the-scenes content on social media.
