Job summary

The Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH), part of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, seeks a full-time Laboratory Quality Assurance Specialist for the Newborn Screening Program. You will help ensure accuracy, compliance and safety in newborn screening testing, maintain quality control, and support regulatory requirements (CAP/CLIA/HIPAA).

Onsite work at WSLH Henry Mall with 8:00am–4:30pm hours; remote work may be established with the Director after training.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and maintains training materials and monitors staff compliance with accreditation requirements and lab best practices.
  • Collect quality metrics and communicate with healthcare providers to ensure all eligible newborns receive a valid newborn screen and optimize timeliness.
  • Performs internal and external lab audits and responds to audit requests to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Serves as a main contact to leadership and agencies, manages project information and budget portions.
  • Prepares and reviews laboratory workflows, SOPs, QA/QC test records and quality assurance documentation.
  • Reviews equipment calibration and preventive maintenance records for safe operation and accreditation needs.
  • Assists with evaluating workflows and procedures, supports occurrence management and continuous quality improvement.
  • Manages proficiency testing documentation and routine quality control reports to NBS management.
