Job summary

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is seeking a Newborn Hearing Screening Technician for per diem day shifts in Boston. The role uses an automated screener to test newborns, reports results to parents and clinicians, and coordinates follow-up care as needed.

The position also supports data management and occasional charge entry in the clinical system, with a focus on accurate documentation and teamwork within the nursery setting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 0–1 years related work experience required.
• Experience with computer systems and Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) preferred.

Responsibilities

**Job Description:****Essential Responsibilities:**1. Accurately identifies, locates, and transports newborns who need hearing screenings. Prepares babies for testing and performs automated auditory brainstem response tests.2. Documents hearing screening results in medical record. Appropriately informs nursery staff, physicians, and parents of hearing screening results. Schedules follow-up hearing evaluations, as needed.3. Identifies the need for limited equipment maintenance. Maintains supply distribution to multiple equipment locations.4. Assists in hearing screening data and database management.5. Performs daily charge entry into clinical computing system.**Required Qualifications:**1. High School diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.2. 0-1 years related work experience required.3. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.**Competencies:**1. **Written Communications:**Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.2. **Oral Communications:**Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.3. **Knowledge:**Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use them in routine situations. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.**Physical Nature of the Job:** Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus**Pay Range:**$20.50 – $27.59The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
