The Opportunity

**Compensation Range for This Position Is $92,000 - $97,100

This is a FULL TIME, REMOTE position requiring travel to various worksites, including international locations, for months at a time.

Mercy Ships is seeking a New Ship Technical Superintendent to coordinate technical operations during construction, sea trials, maiden voyage, and initial field service, working with the Director of the Newbuild and the Director of Technical Operations. Responsibilities include creating operational documentation, maintenance plans, parts and supplies management, and coordinating repairs and maintenance to minimize downtime and repair costs.

How You’ll Contribute

  • Oversee and support the building of the planned maintenance system and monitor routine and corrective maintenance onboard.
  • Prepare work plans for the equipping phase and initial field service, and plan for annual maintenance, including drydocking.
  • Ensure all classification requirements are met for each ship, monitor survey schedules, and address defects.
  • Develop and coordinate SMS documentation, regulatory documents, and manuals.
  • Review repair and modification requests for compliance with regulations and classifications.
  • Inspect machinery and equipment, draw job specifications, and obtain bids from contractors or shipyards.
  • Maintain contact with contractors to ensure work completion according to contracts.
  • Investigate machinery casualties and advise on operational methods to prevent recurrence.
  • Plan supply stocks for all marine operations to ensure availability of repair parts and consumables.
  • Maintain records of technical expenses, liaise with regulatory agencies, and ensure safety and compliance.
  • Review and advise on technical staff qualifications.
  • Visit the vessel during construction, equipping, and after deployment to conduct inspections.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in the industry.
