Job summary

HR On Demand is seeking a Buyer in the Austin, TX area to issue and manage purchase orders tied to MRP requirements. You will track deliveries, maintain supplier records, and report on supplier performance to keep NPI and production on schedule.

You will collaborate with Planning, Production, Engineering, and Quality to ensure materials meet production requirements, escalate issues when needed, and maintain accurate purchasing data and records.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on purchasing experience.
  • +4 years of experience in purchasing/procurement, ideally in electronics, hardware, or manufacturing environments.
  • Prior hands-on experience issuing and managing purchase orders in an MRP-driven environment.
  • Working knowledge of purchasing/ERP systems for PO issuance, order tracking, and reporting.
  • Experience in electronics, hardware, or manufacturing purchasing/procurement.
  • Strong follow-up and organizational skills, with ability to manage multiple open orders and shortages simultaneously without dropping details.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for regular supplier and cross-functional coordination (Planning, Production, Engineering, Quality).
  • Comfortable escalating issues proactively rather than waiting for problems to surface on their own.
  • Based in or willing to relocate to Austin, TX (Hutto), and able to work onsite.

Responsibilities

  • Review MRP requirements and issue purchase orders to approved vendors according purchasing procedures.
  • Follow up supplier order confirmation, delivery schedules, open orders, and overdue materials till material received.
  • Maintain close communication with suppliers and ensure materials are delivered according to production requirements.
  • Monitor material shortages and identify potential delivery risks; elevate critical issues to the Purchasing Manager.
  • Coordinate with Planning and Production on material priorities and production requirements.
  • Work with Engineering and Quality on new materials, supplier samples, engineering changes, and material-related issues.
  • Support NPI and pilot production by following up prototype and new-product material requirements.
  • Maintain purchasing information including price, lead time, MOQ, supplier information, and PO records.
  • Follow up rejected materials, replacement materials, supplier returns, and related commercial issues.
  • Monitor supplier delivery performance and report recurring delivery or service problems.
  • Follow up ECN, EOL, excess, phase-in/phase-out, and other material changes affecting existing purchase orders.
  • Prepare purchasing reports including open PO, shortage status, overdue delivery, and supplier performance.

Role Overview
