Job summary

FX Staffing is seeking a New Product Development Engineer in the West Chester, Ohio area. This role involves taking concepts from idea to production, developing innovative solutions, and translating customer needs into manufacturable products.

The engineer will lead prototyping, testing, and design validation, working closely with manufacturing and sales teams to launch new products and improve existing ones.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of mechanical product design/product development experience.
• A demonstrated history of creating and launching physical products.
• Creative problem-solving ability and hands-on builder mindset.
• Strong 3D CAD skills; Solid Edge experience preferred.
• Experience with structural calculations and/or FEA.
• Experience with fabricated metal products, aluminum structures, or similar environments.
• Understanding of design for manufacturing, assembly, installation, and cost.
• Ability to collaborate with manufacturing, sales, and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

FX Staffing is recruiting a New Product Development Engineer for a growing manufacturing organization in the West Chester, Ohio area.

This is not your typical mechanical engineering role. Our client is looking for someone who is genuinely creative—an engineer who enjoys starting with a problem, an idea, or even a blank sheet of paper and figuring out what the product could be.

The right person will combine strong mechanical engineering fundamentals with curiosity, imagination, and a builder's mentality. You'll take new products from early concepts and rough ideas through CAD, analysis, prototyping, testing, manufacturing, and full production.

If your favorite part of engineering is figuring out a better way to build something—not simply modifying what already exists—this is the type of role we're looking to fill.

What You'll Be Doing

• Create new products from the ground up, taking concepts from initial idea through production.
• Brainstorm and develop creative solutions to customer and market problems rather than relying solely on existing designs.
• Turn sketches, ideas, customer requests, and performance goals into manufacturable products.
• Build and evaluate prototypes, learn from what works (and what doesn't), and continuously improve designs.
• Develop 3D CAD models, assemblies, drawings, and engineering documentation.
• Perform engineering calculations and FEA to validate structural performance, load capacity, and component sizing.
• Apply applicable structural standards, including the Aluminum Design Manual (ADM) and ASCE 7.
• Evaluate concepts for strength, safety, functionality, appearance, manufacturability, installation, transportation, and cost.
• Work closely with manufacturing and production teams to determine practical ways to turn ideas into finished products.
• Collaborate with sales, marketing, customers, and other engineers to identify opportunities for entirely new products and improvements to existing ones.
• Research new materials, components, manufacturing processes, and technologies.
• Identify opportunities for value engineering and smarter, simpler product designs.
• Lead prototype testing, design revisions, validation, and production implementation.
• Manage multiple development projects from concept through completion.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of mechanical product design/product development experience.
• A demonstrated history of actually creating and launching physical products, not simply maintaining or modifying existing designs.
• Creative problem-solving ability. We want someone who naturally looks at a problem and starts thinking, "There's got to be a better way to do this."
• Comfortable working in the early, sometimes messy stages of product development where the final solution isn't already defined.
• Strong 3D CAD skills; Solid Edge experience is a plus, but comparable platforms are welcome.
• Experience with structural calculations and/or finite element analysis.
• Experience with fabricated metal products, aluminum structures, or similar manufacturing environments is highly desirable.
• Good understanding of design for manufacturing, assembly, installation, and cost.
• Someone equally comfortable designing at a computer and working with the people who actually build the product.
• Strong communication, organizational, and project-management skills.
