Job summary

The Nature Conservancy seeks a New Mexico State Director to lead the New Mexico Business Unit from Santa Fe or nearby, in a hybrid role with more in-office days. You will partner with Western US and Canada division colleagues to advance conservation goals across rivers, forests, and habitats.

You will oversee policy, fundraising, and finance leaders, build tribal and community partnerships, and shape cross-boundary strategies. Expect about 40% travel and act as primary local spokesperson for TNC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 7 years of management experience or equivalent relevant combination.
• Leading and managing a multi-disciplinary team with a proven ability to motivate, manage, set objectives, and manage performance.
• Experience working and operating in New Mexico.
• Experience in natural resources and/or the environment more broadly.
• Strategic planning and systems thinking for large, complex initiatives.
• 7 to 10 years’ experience as a proven manager in the conservation arena, non-profit sector, advocacy, or related for-profit area.

Responsibilities

• Lead the New Mexico Business Unit and serve as ambassador for TNC locally and with partners.
• Oversee policy/government relations, fundraising, and finance leaders for the BU.
• Collaborate with division-wide leaders to align budgets and priorities.
• Direct fundraising efforts and engage private and government donors to meet goals.
• Serve as a primary local spokesperson and cultivate external audiences.
