The technician repairs machinery breakdowns and flagged items as required. If unable to repair the breakdown, the technician submits a work order including the machine number, department, type of breakdown, and description.

The technician completes a thorough information 'handoff' with the technician from the previous shift and checks the work order system at the beginning of each shift.

The technician wears his plant radio and carries the Card Technician smart phone at all times.

1. OPENING

The technician follows the prescribed safety procedures. (Ref. SAFETY00 & SAFETY4M)

After shift change, alert production manager if any machine operator is absent in opening, carding, or drawing.

Cycle the laydowns in the basement at the start of the shift to be sure that there are enough bales cut to run the shift. Check that the stock cutter has hand-leveled and cleaned all laydowns. Alert production manager if any problem.

Cycle opening equipment and look for opportunities to prevent stock flow interruptions (filtration gauges, conditions, MPM jumping trunks, chokes in lines, etc.). Communicate with operators all during the shift.

On weekends, complete the weekly machine cleaning checklists as assigned by shift.

During normal operation, the technician cycles all equipment. He or she cleans MPM flaps and listen for any unusual noises. Identify the source of any problems and correct the problem if able. Create a work order for any problem that cannot be handled by the technician.

During the shift, the technician must clean all PWS hoppers and then put the test weight on all pans that are in production to check that the pans are weighing correctly. Enter the weight number into the DTM computer system. Stop off any pans that are not weighing correctly and call their manager.

Track any downtime on cards and document the reason that cards are down or in slow speed during the shift.

When there is no stock cutter on duty, the technician sweeps around the laydowns twice

per shift.

Check the Monday maintenance schedule and make sure that all equipment scheduled for maintenance is run out for maintenance to be performed.

The technician must never defeat any safety or quality monitoring device.

AUTHORIZATION SHUTDOWN

The card technician is authorized to shut down any piece of opening equipment, correct the problem, if possible, and/or notify the production manager when detecting the following.

• 1. Safety hazard 6. Mixtures & contamination
• 2. Chokes in equipment 7. Abnormal noises or smells
• 3. Weight issues 8. Bad can build
• 4. Repeating machine stops 9. Any other quality problems
• 5. Suction cleaning problem

2. CARDING

The technician follows the prescribed safety procedures. (Ref. SAFETY00 & SAFETY14)

The technician patrols the assigned machinery inspecting for quality problems and mechanical difficulties. The technician corrects problems as found.

The technician responds to work orders and radio calls for assigned machinery. Work orders must be put in for all radio calls.

The technician cleans, repairs and performs general upkeep in the prescribed manner, (Ref. WRKIN003).

If the technician identifies non-conforming material, the technician stops the machine making non-conforming material. He corrects the issue, if possible, and notifies the production manager. (Ref. SPI Manual-PISPI01)

MIXTURE PREVENTION/QUALITY CHECKS

During each shift, the technician observes and assures that: (1) correct identification of cans at each card, (2) card coiler identification is correct, and (3) can build correct. If incorrect, the technician corrects, if possible, and/or notifies the production manager.

AUTHORIZATION SHUTDOWN

The card technician is authorized to shut down the cards, correct the problem, if possible, and/or notify the production manager when detecting the following.

• 1. Safety hazard 6. Mixtures & contamination
• 2. Chokes in equipment 7. Abnormal noises or smells
• 3. Weight issues 8. Bad can build
• 4. Repeating machine stops 9. Any other quality problems
• 5. Suction cleaning problem

3. DRAWING

The technician follows the prescribed safety procedures. (Ref. SAFETY00 & SAFETY14)

In case of sliverdata shutdown, the technician follows the prescribed procedure to resolve the problem. (Ref. PISPI03)

If the technician identifies non-conforming material, the technician stops the machine making non-conforming material. He corrects the problem, if possible, and notifies the production manager. (Ref. SPI Manual-PISPI01)

MIXTURE PREVENTION/QUALITY CHECKS

During each shift, the technician observes that: (1) the draw frames are correctly identified, (2) the correct number of cans are in the creel, (3) the cans are correctly identified, and (4) delivery cans correctly identified. If incorrect, the technician corrects if possible and/or notifies the production manager.

AUTHORIZATION SHUTDOWN

The technician is authorized to shut down the drawing frames, correct the problem, if possible, and/or notify the production manager when detecting the following.

• 1. Safety hazard 6. Repeating ends down
• 2. Mixture or contamination 7. Bad top rolls or bearings
• 3. Wrong cans in the creel 8. Improper or missing I.D.
• 4. Bad can build 9. Any other quality problem
• 5. Abnormal noises or smells
