Job summary

Milliken and Company in Mayodan, NC is seeking a Carding Operator to ensure safe, efficient fiber processing on the carding line.

You will follow safety rules, operate carding machines, inspect sliver quality, keep production logs, and report issues to supervision. The role includes standing most of the day and working an 11 PM–7 AM shift to meet production goals.

Responsibilities

• Follow all department safety rules

• Standing and walking 7-8 hours per shift
• Feed raw material properly into chute/lap feed systems
• Operate carding machines and ensure correct fiber processing and sliver formation
• Fix sliver breaks and position empty cans in the can changer as needed
• Inspect sliver quality, remove impurities, and prevent product mix
• Identify blend by placing correct ID band color on cans
• Patrol work area to inspect sliver path, remove tags, and ensure high-quality sliver output
• Collect waste and transport it to designated waste hoppers; place all waste in proper containers
• Maintain production logs, document machine output, and report issues
• Perform scheduled cleaning, blowing out machines
• Align and straighten full and empty cans in the storage area during and at the end of the shift
• Observe and report any problems to the card technician, supervisor, or manager
• Perform all other duties as directed by management

JOB CLASSIFICATION

The operator has the responsibility to identify any non-conformity in the Quality System as it relates to their area of responsibility and report it to the Production Manager, P.I. Department or ISO Management representative.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Operator ensures adherence to safety protocols, quality standards, and environmental responsibilities as outlined in company policies and procedures and plant specific policies. Handle non-conforming materials by correcting issues or notifying supervisor.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION

This job operates in a manufacturing facility. This position is a safety-sensitive position and regularly works around moving mechanical parts and powered industrial vehicles. Noise level is generally loud. Temperatures can be more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Humidity level can be more than 98% for 100% of day.

SHIFT/WORK HOURS

Shift schedule will depend on open positions at time of hire and will be communicated with new hire paperwork. Weekends and holidays are scheduled depending on business demands.
