Description

Congratulations on becoming a Registered Nurse! We know that transitioning from nursing school to independent practice is one of the biggest steps in your career. That's why Cottage Hospital has developed a structured 12-week Nurse Residency Program designed to provide the support, education, and hands‑on experience you need to succeed.

Our residency combines:

  • Dedicated one‑on‑one precepted clinical orientation
  • Structured classroom education
  • Skills labs and guided learning experiences
  • Progressive independence as your confidence and competency grow
  • Ongoing mentorship from experienced nursing staff

As a Medical Surgical RN, you'll care for a diverse patient population including acute medical conditions, post-surgical patients, rehabilitation, swing bed patients, and those requiring higher‑acuity monitoring. Working in our critical access hospital provides the opportunity to develop a broad clinical skill set while working closely with physicians, therapists, pharmacists, and interdisciplinary team members.

Unlike larger health systems, you'll have the opportunity to truly know your coworkers, build meaningful relationships with your patients, and become an integral part of our hospital family.

What You'll Learn

Throughout the residency, you will:

  • Build confidence in clinical assessment and critical thinking
  • Develop strong medication administration and patient safety practices
  • Learn to prioritize and coordinate care for multiple patients
  • Strengthen communication with providers and the interdisciplinary team
  • Gain experience caring for patients across the adult lifespan
  • Develop proficiency with electronic medical records and clinical documentation
  • Participate in ongoing education and evidence‑based practice initiatives
After Residency

Upon successful completion of the 12‑week residency, you'll transition into an independent Medical Surgical RN role with continued mentorship and opportunities for professional development.

Why Cottage Hospital?
  • Structured 12‑week RN Residency Program
  • Dedicated preceptor throughout orientation
  • Small, supportive team environment
  • Opportunities for continued education and professional growth
  • Collaborative interdisciplinary culture
  • Meaningful relationships with patients, families, and coworkers

If you're looking for more than just your first nursing job—and instead want a place where you'll be invested in, supported, and empowered to build a successful career—we invite you to join Cottage Hospital.
