Job summary

General Matter is seeking an early-career Software Engineer in the United States to build software that enables advanced enrichment technology and the systems used to develop and operate it.

You will collaborate with hardware and engineering teams to create software for data acquisition, automation, and production systems, owning projects from design through deployment in a fast-moving environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field required and completed by start date.
• Experience programming in Python, C++, C, Rust, Go, or Java through coursework or projects.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, debugging and testing.
• Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration in an interdisciplinary team.
• Interest in hardware-software integration and hands-on work with physical systems.
• Evidence of exceptional ability via projects or portfolio.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain software supporting engineering, test, and operational systems.
• Build tools and applications that interface with hardware and data acquisition systems.
• Develop software to automate testing, experiments, data collection, analysis, and workflows.
• Collaborate with engineers across software, electrical, mechanical, controls, and test teams.
• Translate engineering requirements into reliable software solutions.
• Debug issues across software and hardware boundaries and identify root causes.
• Develop tests, monitoring, and tooling to improve reliability.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, testing, and documentation.
• Take ownership of projects from concept to deployment.
• Learn new technologies quickly as project needs evolve.
