Job summary

Mercy Health's Mercy Hospital St. Louis is seeking a Critical Care Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) for a full-time night shift.

You will provide high-quality intermediate care as patients transition from ICU to Med/Surg, perform focused handoffs, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to optimize outcomes. Requirements include Missouri RN licensure, BSN preferred, and BLS; ACLS/NIHSS/PCCN or related certifications are encouraged.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (ADN, Diploma, or BSN).
• BSN preferred.
• Current Missouri RN license or compact license.
• Required: BLS certification; ACLS/NIHSS/PCCN or similar stepdown certifications encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality care for intermediate-acuity patients transitioning from critical care to Med/Surg level.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care using evidence-based practices.
• Perform accurate hand-offs and bedside shift reporting to maintain patient safety.
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practitioners, and multidisciplinary partners to optimize patient outcomes.
• Administer medications, monitor complex conditions (cardiac, respiratory, post‑ICU), and support recovery.
• Participate in huddles, shared governance activities, and unit-based quality improvement initiatives.
