Job summary

UNC Health Care, through UNC Medical Center's Youth Behavioral Health Facility in Butner, NC, is hiring a New Graduate RN for the Dogwood Unit. The role supports a 54-bed adolescent psychiatric care setting on a yearlong residency; requires NC RN licensure, NCLEX passage, and recent nursing graduation.

Three 12-hour shifts, rotating weekends/holidays, 36 hours weekly; orientation in Chapel Hill is required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
• If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment, and obtain a Bachelor's degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment date.
• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina by the first day of clinical care.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers.

Responsibilities

• Education – identify and meet learning needs of self; attend education programs; assess readiness to learn of patient/family.
• Evaluation of Care – identify expected outcomes; participate in interdisciplinary evaluation; communicate for continuity of care.
• Implementation – provide care for patients with complex problems; perform bedside testing as needed; follow policies and procedures; prioritize care.
• Leadership – develop goals; promote collaboration; contribute to unit goals and performance improvement; foster safe environment.
• Patient Assessment – recognize data to determine priorities; assess educational and safety needs; plan discharge needs.
• Planning – collaborate with patient/family to update care plan; involve multidisciplinary resources.
• Research – read journals and bring ideas to staff for consideration.
