Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in the United States seeks an Assistant Mechanical Engineer to support HVAC and plumbing design for aviation, government, and military facilities. You will assist in load calculations, energy modeling, and CAD drawings while aligning with UFC/UFGS and industry codes.

Strong communication and teamwork are essential as you contribute throughout design and construction. You will work under a licensed engineer on diverse projects, leveraging Python and VBA to enhance design

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in HVAC and plumbing from ABET-accredited program.
• FE exam completed or in progress.
• Internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work analytically in a quantitative environment.
• GPA 3.0 strongly preferred.
• Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Assist HVAC and plumbing design from concept through design completion.
• Perform load calculations and energy modeling as required.
• Develop design documents in CAD (Revit/AutoCAD).
• Use Python/Excel VBA to improve design workflows.
• Compile data for client presentations and field inspections.
• Support compliance with UFC/UFGS and ASHRAE/IPC standards.
• Coordinate with project team on multiple project types.
• Assist in producing production drawings and calculations.
