If this environment suits you, we have an exciting opportunity for a New Grad Materials Engineer or Mechanical Engineer.

This position is located at the Westinghouse facility in Chattanooga, TN. No relocation assistance will be provided. We are able to consider all candidates authorized to work without sponsorship now and in the future, as we cannot sponsor visas for this opportunity.

Your Day-to-Day:
  1. Work closely with materials engineers to understand materials-related concerns in the nuclear industry, focusing on primary components such as reactor vessel internals, steam generators, reactor vessel, and containment vessel.
  2. Author specifications for material requirements for new plants and components. Support manufacturing in addressing non-conformances.
  3. Participate in projects related to material degradation mechanisms like corrosion, stress corrosion cracking (SCC), irradiation-assisted SCC (IASCC), irradiation embrittlement, and fatigue.
  4. Develop inspection acceptance criteria for nuclear plant components, including flaw acceptance criteria and bolting patterns impacted by material degradation.
  5. Evaluate observed degradation in plant components to assess continued operation.
  6. Support industry projects developing guidance and requirements for the safe, long-term operation of nuclear reactor internals.
Who You Are:

As a successful candidate, you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in materials or mechanical engineering
  • 0-3 years of experience (new grads welcomed!)
  • Interest in the nuclear industry, ASME Section III components, or similar fields
  • Familiarity with materials requirements
Nice-to-Have:
  • Master's degree (MS)
