Job summary

Duke University Health System in Durham, NC, seeks an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for the Department of Neurosurgery at Duke University Hospital and Duke Regional Hospital. Provides direct patient care in collaboration with supervising physician for patients with neurosurgical conditions in a hospital setting.

Primary hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM, with flexibility for in-hospital consults and rounding; Duke emphasizes learning, CME funding, and advancement

Qualifications

• Nurse Practitioners: Master’s degree in Nursing and NP licensure in NC.
• Physician Assistants: Bachelor's degree; Master’s degree preferred and NC PA license.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist physician and prescribe treatments to ensure quality patient care.
• Take histories, perform exams, write progress notes and develop therapeutic relationships with patients.
• Respond to patient inquiries via phone or MyChart and consult with supervising physician as needed.
• Order and schedule labs and diagnostic procedures; arrange inpatient admission when needed.
• Carry out wound care, monitor progress, and report changes to the supervising physician.
• Perform lumbar punctures and other basic procedures for screening and care in neurosurgery patients.
• Participate in research projects, train new staff, and contribute to teaching students and residents.

Master's degree in Nursing
