Job summary

The Neurosurgery lab at Virginia Commonwealth University seeks a Laboratory Technician I-III to assist with rodent studies on traumatic brain injury and epilepsy, supporting graduate students and postdocs.

Responsibilities include animal care, tissue processing, surgeries assistance, data collection and analysis, and related lab duties; training and certification will be provided, with opportunities for publication.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; work experience in a research lab.
  • Interest and ability to learn neuroscience techniques (animal surgery, histology, electrophysiology).
  • Ability to manage multiple experiments and maintain organized records.
  • Willingness to travel between VA Medical Center and VCU as needed.
  • Must complete training and certification in animal use and care.

Responsibilities

  • Animal care: maintain rodent colony with proper documentation.
  • Data collection and analysis: dissection, histology, immunohistochemistry, behavior testing.
  • Laboratory management: safety, certifications, supplies, inventory.
  • Communication: report progress, attend meetings, assist collaborators and trainees.
