Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University invites applications for a Laboratory Technician in the Neurosurgery lab to support studies in traumatic brain injury and epilepsy using rodent models. You will assist with brain sectioning, immunohistochemistry, surgeries, behavioral testing, and data analysis.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in a research laboratory.
  • Interest in experimental neurosciences.
  • Willingness to learn techniques in animal surgery, rodent behavior, histology, electrophysiology.
  • Ability to conduct multiple experiments simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to function semi-autonomously with supervision.
  • Knowledge of scientific and regulatory principles.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Willingness to travel between VA Medical Center and VCU.
  • Training in lab animal use and care (VCU/VA).
  • Commitment to respectful work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Animal care and rodent colony maintenance.
  • Assist in rodent surgeries and procedures.
  • Brain dissection, histology, IHC, and light microscopy; training available.
  • Perform rodent behavioral testing.
  • Maintain thorough experimental logs.
  • Laboratory safety, certifications, and documentation.
  • Order and maintain supplies and equipment.
  • Inventory of laboratory equipment; quarterly updates.
  • Report status at lab meetings; written summaries.
  • Collaborate with students/post-docs; train new lab members.
  • Contribute to abstracts/manuscripts for publication.
