Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in a research laboratory.
  • Interest in experimental neurosciences.
  • Willingness to learn animal surgery, rodent behavior, histology, electrophysiology, etc.
  • Ability to conduct multiple experiments simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to function semi-autonomously with supervision.
  • Knowledge of scientific principles, practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the lab.
  • Willingness and ability to travel between VA Medical Center and VCU.
  • Must complete training in research animal use and care (rodents).
  • Commitment to professionalism and civility in a diverse environment.

Responsibilities

  • Animal care: maintain rodent colony and post-operative monitoring; assist surgeries.
  • Data collection: brain dissection/sectioning, immunohistochemistry, light microscopy; behavioral testing.
  • Laboratory management: safety certifications, documentation, and inventory.
  • Communication: report to PI, present status in meetings, aid collaboration.
