Job summary

Veterinary Healthcare Associates (VHA) is seeking an experienced and compassionate Neurology Veterinary Assistant to join our Specialty Neurology team. This role works alongside Neurology clinicians and Veterinary Technicians to support patients throughout advanced diagnostics, treatment, hospitalization, imaging, and recovery.

Working shift hours are 12:00a-12:00p. With General Practice, Emergency, Critical Care, and Specialty Services together on one integrated campus, VHA offers a unique

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Veterinary Assistant Certification (CVA) or equivalent formal veterinary assistant training.
  • Hands-on experience in a veterinary hospital or clinical animal care setting.
  • Proficiency in patient handling, restraint, vital signs, nursing care, and clinical workflow.
  • Experience supporting diagnostic procedures, patient treatments, and hospitalized patient care.
  • Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and communicate concerns to the clinical team.
  • Ability to work with complex cases in a fast-paced specialty environment.
  • Strong communication, organization, multitasking, and attention to detail.
  • Compassionate, professional approach to patient care, client service, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Neurology & Emergency clinicians and Veterinary Technicians with examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures
  • Prepare and position patients for MRI, CT, and other advanced imaging procedures
  • Support anesthesia preparation, induction, monitoring, and recovery under appropriate clinical supervision
  • Monitor hospitalized neurology patients and promptly communicate changes in patient condition
  • Obtain vital signs and assist with sample collection, laboratory testing, and treatment documentation
  • Provide nursing and comfort care for hospitalized patients
  • Utilize safe, compassionate, low-stress patient handling techniques
  • Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain imaging, treatment, and procedure areas
  • Support efficient patient flow and transfers between Neurology, Emergency, ICU, and other Specialty Services
  • Provide compassionate client support and reinforce discharge and home-care instructions as directed
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation and follow infection prevention, safety, and patient-care protocols
  • Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Veterinary Assistant Certification (CVA) or equivalent formal veterinary assistant training
  • Previous hands-on experience in a veterinary hospital or clinical animal care setting
  • Demonstrated proficiency in patient handling, restraint, vital signs, nursing care, and clinical workflow

Responsibilities

Assist Neurology & Emergency clinicians and Veterinary Technicians with examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures

Prepare and position patients for MRI, CT, and other advanced imaging procedures

Support anesthesia preparation, induction, monitoring, and recovery under appropriate clinical supervision

Monitor hospitalized neurology patients and promptly communicate changes in patient condition

Experience in Neurology, Specialty Medicine, Emergency & Critical Care, or ICU

Familiarity with MRI, CT, or other advanced imaging workflows

Fear Free Certification and/or Low-Stress Handling experience

Desire to develop advanced clinical skills and grow within specialty veterinary medicine
