Qualifications

  • Current CVT, RVT, or LVT credential in good standing strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of veterinary technician experience, with proficiency in emergency and critical care
  • Advanced proficiency in triage, stabilization, anesthesia monitoring, and critical care nursing
  • Proven ability to manage multiple high-acuity patients with accuracy, safety, and teamwork

Responsibilities

  • Triage emergency patients and recognize changes requiring immediate intervention
  • Provide advanced nursing care for emergency, hospitalized, and critically ill patients
  • Administer medications, injections, fluids, and prescribed treatments with precision
  • Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, sample collection, lab testing, and radiology
  • Support emergency stabilization, resuscitation, and critical care interventions
  • Maintain anesthesia preparation, monitoring, recovery, and pain assessment
  • Obtain diagnostic radiographs and assist with advanced diagnostics
  • Monitor ICU patients and communicate changes to the veterinary team
  • Educate and support clients through emergency treatment plans and discharge

Veterinary Healthcare Associates (VHA) is seeking a highly skilled Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT/RVT/LVT) to join our Emergency & Critical Care team. This role is designed for technicians who thrive in high-acuity medicine, think critically under pressure, and want to use advanced nursing skills to make a meaningful impact on patient outcomes.

At VHA, General Practice, Emergency, Critical Care, and Specialty Services come together on one integrated campus. Our ER/ICU technicians work alongside emergency clinicians and multidisciplinary teams to manage everything from urgent presentations to critically ill patients requiring advanced monitoring and life-saving intervention.

What You'll Do

Triage emergency patients and recognize changes in patient condition requiring immediate intervention

Provide advanced nursing care for emergency, hospitalized, and critically ill patients

Administer medications, injections, fluid therapy, and prescribed treatments with precision

Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, sample collection, laboratory testing, and other advanced technical procedures

Support emergency stabilization, resuscitation, and critical care interventions

Perform anesthesia preparation, monitoring, recovery, and pain assessment

Obtain diagnostic radiographs and support advanced diagnostic procedures

Continuously monitor ICU patients, assess treatment response, and communicate changes to the veterinary team

Provide thorough patient handoffs and participate in interdisciplinary rounds and case discussions

Educate and support clients through emergency treatment plans, hospitalization, medications, and discharge care

Collaborate with Emergency, ICU, General Practice, and Specialty teams to provide seamless continuity of care

Maintain accurate medical records while upholding patient safety, infection prevention, and hospital protocols

Requirements

Current CVT, RVT, or LVT credential in good standing strongly preferred

Minimum of 3 years of veterinary technician experience, with demonstrated proficiency in emergency, critical care, specialty, or other high-acuity medicine

Advanced proficiency in emergency triage, patient assessment, stabilization, and critical care nursing

Advanced proficiency in venipuncture, IV catheter placement, medication administration, fluid therapy, diagnostics, and radiology

Strong anesthesia monitoring, pain management, and patient recovery skills

Demonstrated ability to recognize patient deterioration and respond effectively in urgent and critical situations

Proven ability to prioritize multiple high-acuity patients while maintaining accuracy, safety, and attention to detail

Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills

Ability to remain composed, adaptable, and compassionate in a fast-paced emergency environment

Commitment to patient advocacy, clinical excellence, and continued professional development

Highly experienced non-credentialed Veterinary Technicians may be considered when they demonstrate advanced ER/ICU nursing skills, significant high-acuity clinical experience, and proficiency across the technical competencies required for this role.

Preferred

Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) in Emergency & Critical Care or Anesthesia & Analgesia, or interest in pursuing specialty certification

Experience in a specialty referral, emergency, or multidisciplinary hospital

Advanced CPR and emergency stabilization training

Fear Free Certification and/or Low-Stress Handling Certification

Experience mentoring technicians, assistants, or veterinary students
